The Royal Caledonian Society of South Australia

The Pipes & Drums of the Royal Caledonian Society are busy preparing for the Melbourne Tattoo and the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle (UK)!

The Band has had the privilege of representing the State and Country when participating in International National and Local Tattoos, including Adelaide, Sydney, Edinburgh (Scotland) and Basel (Switzerland), and will be participating in the Royal Edinburgh military Tattoo in Melbourne in February 2016.

We have been honoured to be invited, as the only Pipe Band from Australia, to represent the Commonwealth of Australia, as part of a Massed Commonwealth Pipes and Drums Band at H.M. Queen Elizabeth II 90th birthday Royal Pageant to be held at Windsor (UK) during May 2016.

This Massed Band will showcase one Band from each of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom. There is no doubting that this occasion will be an international highlight of 2016 and is to be televised live on UK ITV.

The celebration is a Not for Profit event, with all proceeds donated to charity. As such, we are required to cover our travel costs to the UK - - - not an insignificant cost for a voluntary group.”

The 90 minute event will take place between the 12th to 15th May 2016 and consist of 500 horses, and more than 1000 participants from the United Kingdom and the World and will create a joyful event for The Queen.

The 90 year journey will take us from the excitement of her birth, through to World War II, her marriage, the Coronation and her Reign of over 60 years. The celebration will use horses, actors, The Queen’s racing pigeons and dogs, dancers and 100 Pipes & Drums from the Commonwealth to tell the story.

Sixty four years of The Queen’s Reign and Her Majesty becoming the longest service Monarch in British history, will be recognised within the event.

The celebration will be created by the team that organised the successful Diamond Jubilee Pageant in Windsor in 2012. The 90 minute experience will be a fusion of the latest video projection, LED effects and theatrical lighting.

The finale will be a kaleidoscope of memories and achievements.

It will be a birthday party fit for The Queen.
